On the Internet you can find links to special tests that are the gateway to career opportunities. Most Community Adult Literacy and State Eduction Departments offer free GED programs that combine a classroom setting with one-on-one tutoring as well Distance Learning courses. Students learn at their own pace with materials povided. As a recognized New York State resource for persons preparing to take the GED exams, The Learning Place, Syracuse, NY assists students with all of the New York State requirements. This web site provides a unique opportunity for people who can not attend regularly scheduled sessions to study independently and work interactively with tutors through our online resources.
Getting started: Earning a General Education Diploma requires that you pass tests in 5 standard education areas: Reading, Math, Science, Social Studies and Writing. The Internet has many excellent web sites that can help you achieve that goal. We have organized this page into three groups of links to educational web sites providing free resources that you can use interactively online or download for offline study.
1. EVALUATION
Begin your GED study program with the series of self-evaluation tests. These tests will help you to determine your strengths and weaknesses in the five GED subject areas. The tests are mostly multiple choice questions. Take the entire test, one subject group at a time.At the end of each test click the “evaluate” page icon. Incorrect answers and solutions will be displayed. Be sure to keep score and make notes of the types of questions you missed. Don’t feel discouraged by the number of incorrect answers.

2. BEGIN STUDIES Based on your test scores, make a list of test subjects from best to poorest score. Your goal is to improve your scores. So it’s important to have a study strategy. The links at right are ideal for total GED studies. Also specific subject links are available on this website. Since it will be much easier to improve scores for your best subjects, brush up on those subjects first, so that your studies of the more difficult subjects will be fresher when you are ready to take your actual GED test.
The Oswego School District Exam Center is an excellent place to study for your GED test. Comprehensive subject areas as well as testing are provided. Go to the entire website or selectively to subject areas: Math A, Math B, Writing Guide, Global History, U.S. History, Earth Science, Chemistry, Physics, Biology.

 

The U.S. Air Force Library website provides this online, self-tutorial book, Petersons GED Success , covering the 5 subject areas with instruction and helpful study hints for every type of question.
